KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — Residents associations are confused over the “pay as you like” statement involving assessment rates by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, saying it has caused further uncertainty.

Bukit Damansara Residents Association president Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman said while he was happy that Tengku Adnan had intervened, “he should have had a discussion with the stakeholders to clarify the issue.”

Bangsar Baru Residents Association president Datuk George Joseph said: “I would have preferred him to tell us not to pay until the decision is made in March.”

Taman Desa Resident Association president William Chan said the minister should not have made the statement without certainty. “If it was left to us, we wouldn’t pay.”

Bukit Bandaraya Residents Association Datuk Mumtaz Ali wants the status quo to remain until after the public hearings.

“Charging higher assessment on January 1 and later making adjustments would create unnecessary workload for City Hall,” he said.
