SETIU, Dec 7 — Selangor is ready to welcome Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY 2014) with various promotional efforts already planned and carried out throughout this year.
Tourism and Culture Ministry’s Selangor Office director, Arshad Mustapa said among the efforts carried out was the distribution of promotional materials to the tourism sector including hotels, tour agents, tour buses and homestays.
“For VMY 2014, we are targeting five million tourists to Selangor registered at the hotels and homestays in the state,” he told Bernama at the opening ceremony of the Asean Homestay Workshop and Selangor Homestay Awards presentation, here, today.
He said there were 15 homestay villages in the state offering 709 rooms, adding that Selangor received three awards at the One District One Industry Showcase held in Melaka recently.
The Banghuris Homestay won the Excellent Homestay Award 2013, Sungai Sireh Homestay the Best Malaysian Homestay Award and Sungai Lang Tengah Homestay won second place in the forest wood product category.
Arshad said the Tourism and Culture Ministry targeted to attract 28 million foreign tourists to Malaysia during VMY 2014, with expected tourism receipts amounting to RM76 billion. — Bernama
