More flood victims throng relief centres in Pahang

KUANTAN, Dec 7 — The number of flood evacuees at 117 relief centres in eight districts in Pahang stands at 38,099 this morning.

According to a spokesman for the flood operations room at the state police contingent headquarters, here, those evacuated up to 9am were from Kuantan, Pekan, Temerloh, Jerantut, Rompin, Maran, Lipis and Bera districts.

“Kuantan still has the highest number of flood evacuees at 32,880 who are housed at 38 relief centres,” he told Bernama, here, today.

He said in Pekan, 3,464 flood victims were placed at 26 relief centres, in Temerloh 839 (at 22 relief centres), Jerantut 392 (10), Maran 183 (five), Rompin 172 (four), Bera 116 (eight) and Lipis 53 (four). He added that all the victims from 10,849 families came from 123 flood-hit villages.

Meanwhile, several main roads are still closed to traffic after being inundated up to more than a metre. Among the affected stretches are Km28 Jalan Sungai Lembing-Kuantan, Km72 Jalan Kuantan-Segamat and Km14 Jalan Temerloh-Bahau. — Bernama
