Taman Negara cut off, roads, bridge inundated

JERANTUT, Dec 6 — The Tourist Centre in Taman Negara, Kuala Tahan here has been cut off for traffic when the connecting road and bridges at Kampung Paya Teh were submerged in two meters of floodwaters over a 300-metre stretch and is closed to all traffic.

Jerantut police chief Supt Azid Ismail when contacted by Bernama said today all tourist boats have also stopped operations for the last two days following rising water levels at Sungai Tembeling and continuing rain in the upstream and interiors of Jerantut.

According to him, seven main roads were closed since yesterday after being submerged in between one to 10 metres of floodwaters.

Among the affected roads were Jalan Simpang Jengka 8, Jerantut-Lipis near Sungai Kerak, Jerantut-Lipis at Kampung Sepial, bypass road between Jerantut-Kota Gelangi near Simang Lepar and Felda Padang Piol-Sungai Retang.

According to him, police were patrolling and monitoring the areas to assist flood victims and that the situation was under control.         

Meanwhile, in Temerloh, the Temerloh-Bera main road was under one to two metres of water at several places along the route and was closed to all traffic.

Temerloh district officer Datuk Tarif Abdul Rahman said the Temerloh Teluk Era to Gunung Senyum road was also closed and all mountain-climbing activities were temporarily halted.

He said, to date, there were 416 flood victims from 88 families sheltered at nine evacuation centres in the district. — Bernama
