KOTA BARU, Dec 6 — The number of flood evacuees in Kelantan rose to 2,381 this evening, according to the official portal of the state government.

The rise was attributed to the evacuation of people in Pasir Mas where the Sungai Golok had burst its banks and pushed the number of evacuees in that district to 1,696.

Twenty evacuees remained at two relief centres in Tanah Merah and 219 at three centres in Pasir Puteh.

Eight evacuees at a relief centre in Tumpat were allowed to return to their homes, and the centre was closed.

The number of evacuees in Kuala Krai also dropped, from 506 in the morning to 407 in the evening.

However, in Machang, 39 people were moved to four relief centres, in Ulu Sat, Labok, Pulai Chondong and Temangan.

Fine weather since yesterday saw the levels of the major rivers dropping.

However, the level of Sungai Golok at Rantau Panjang was still above the danger mark, at 10.30 metres (danger point, nine metres). — Bernama
