KOTA BARU, Dec 1 — Kelantan Umno will be emphasising Bumiputera economy empowerment, increasing human capital and Bumiputra equity ownership at the Umno general assembly on December 2 to 7.
Its liaison secretary Datuk Hanafi Mamat said the state delegation would also emphasise increasing non-financial assets and creating more information technology and communication-based Bumiputera entrepreneurs.
He told Bernama that the assembly would be attended by many divisional leaders comprising new faces who would be expected to provide input and trigger new ideas in their speeches and debates.
Hanafi who is also Pasir Mas division chief said Kelantan Umno would be sending 196 delegates representing 14 divisions while its Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings, 201 delegates.
Meanwhile, Umno veteran Datuk Hasan Haron Umno said Kelantan must use the assembly to share and seek new ideas to make Umno a party that the people would favour.
“The conference of more than 5,000 people of various levels and backgrounds will immensely and effectively produce ideas towards strengthening the party struggle particularly in Kelantan,” said the Universiti Utara Malaysia adjunct professor.
Hasan said the assembly would be an arena for the young generation in the Youth and Puteri wings to bring their ideas to the fore, on how the party could win the support of the group.
“Umno must realise that support from the young generation is very important for the future including to secure victory in the 14th general election. The opposition is also racing to draw the young generation to their side,” he said. — Bernama
