GEORGE TOWN, Dec 1 — Padang Kota state assemblyman Chow Kon Yeow retained his post as DAP state chief after receiving overwhelming support from delegates with a total 621 votes.
A total 675 voting slips were issued at the party state convention today for delegates to pick between 46 contestants for 15 posts in DAP Penang.
Datuk Keramat state assemblyman and state executive councillor Jagdeep Singh Deo was second, receiving 475 votes.
He was followed by state executive councillor and Bagan Jermal state assemblyman Lim Hock Seng (372), Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari (362) and Lim Hui Ying (361).
Others who were elected into the party state committee are Tanjung Bungah state assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu (358), state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh (336), Paya Terubong state assemblyman Yeoh Soon Hin (336), Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy (331), Koay Teng Hai (330), Air Itam state assemblyman Wong Hon Wai (323), municipal councillor Gooi Seong Kin (314), municipal councillor Harvindar Singh (314), Bagan Dalam state assemblyman A.Tanasekharan (306) and Komtar state assemblyman Teh Lai Heng (297).
There are a total 10 state assemblymen, one MP and two councillors in the committee.
Phee is a returning face who lost out on a state committee spot in the last party state election.
New entrants into the committee this term are Zairil, Yeoh, Tanasekharan and Lai Heng.
Controversial Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi managed to garner 120 votes despite being embroiled in the recent “kucing kurap” issue, but did not make it into the committee.
Tanjung MP Ng Wei Aik, previously the DAP state secretary, was voted out of the committee as he only garnered 267 votes.
Two state executive councillors, Law Heng Kiang and Chong Eng, also lost their spots after they took 288 and 202 votes respectively.
After deliberating for two hours, the new committee decided on the new line-up and appointed five more to the committee.
Law, Rayer and Sungai Pinang state assemblyman Lim Siew Khim were appointed as committee members while Ng was appointed as assistant publicity secretary.
Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong, who only got 191 votes, was also appointed into the committee as assistant organising secretary.
