Abducted Taiwanese tourist safe, police say

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 30 — Police have assured the safety of the Taiwan national who was abducted from Pulau Pom-Pom, Semporna on November 15.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the case was being managed by both the Malaysian and the Philippine governments.

“We can assure you that the victim is safe. We are also accommodating her family while we work out her release with our neighbouring country,” he told reporters after attending the opening of the Security and Public Order Seminar, here today.

According to Khalid, the security forces and the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM) were reviewing the security measures following the incident which also claimed the life of another Taiwanese.

He said police had intensified community policing on islands and had demanded island resort operators to give full cooperation to security personnel. — Bernama
