Six killed in crash along Mukah-Selangau road

KUCHING, Nov 29 — Six people were killed while one person was seriously injured in an accident involving a Perodua Kancil car and a Toyota Hilux pick up at Kilometre 14 Jalan Mukah-Selangau, about 500 kilometres from here this afternoon. 

Mukah police chief DSP Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob said those killed were the driver and four passengers of the Perodua Kancil and a passenger of the Toyota Hilux.

He said all six died at the scene.

“The accident is believed to have happened after the Perodua Kancil driven

by Mohd Hisham Abdullah, 40, from Kampung Bruit, Daro, heading in the direction of Sibu collided with the Toyota Hilux. Due to the impact, the passengers in the car, all of whom were his family members, were flung forward and became pinned in front of the car.

“A male passenger from the three passengers seated at the back of the pick up died after his head banged into the seat in front because of the force of the impact,” he told Bernama.

He said another passenger in the Perodua Kancil identified only as Nur Syafiqah, 14, was seriously injured and was reported to be in critical condition at Sibu Hospital.

He added that police with the help of 10 fire and rescue personnel took about three hours to extricate the victims. — Bernama
