SHAH ALAM, Nov 29 — The Selangor state legislative speaker filed a motion today to make it mandatory to broadcast the assembly sitting live on the Internet or on television in a bid to increase transparency.
Hannah Yeoh, who is also the chairman of the Standing Orders Committee, said that the Internet was the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) state government’s option for now, as the mainstream media is controlled by the Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government.
“This effectively compels the state government of the day to set aside sufficient funds annually to enable a live broadcast,” Yeoh told a press conference at the state legislative assembly here.
“Hopefully someday, we can have a TV licence. For now, only TV Selangor online,” she told The Malay Mail Online after, referring to the state government’s online television channel.
