JOHOR BAHARU, Nov 26 — The body of a boy, believed to have drowned, was found in the waters off Tanjung Langsat near Pasir Gudang today.
It was discovered by a search and rescue (SAR) team at 11.45am, off Pulau Tekong in Singapore waters.
However, it could not be ascertained by the team whether it was that of eight-year-old Muhammad Taufik Abdul Talib for whom it was scouring the waters for, in the first place.
National Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Yaacob Mariman said a team from the department would remain in the surrounding waters of Tanjung Langsat until the body was confirmed to be that of Muhammad Taufik.
Yesterday, a body, believed to be that of Muhammad Taufik's father, Abdul Talib Mohd Hadhari, 42, was found by fishermen in the vicinity about 11am.
Earlier, both father and son were feared drowned when the former tried to rescue the latter who slipped and fell off a raft house while the duo were fishing. Johor police deputy chief Datuk Ismail Yatim said the two bodies were at a hospital in Singapore, pending DNA tests to ascertain their identities. Meanwhile, he denied a Facebook posting which claimed the hospital was charging the deceased's family RM51,435 in fees to carry out the double post-mortem and that it requested contributions from the public, via a bank account. — Bernama
