IPOH, Nov 24 — The 12-year-old girl whose application for a MyKad was rejected two months ago attempted to take her own life after being subjected to abuse from schoolmates and neighbours, The Star Online reported today.

The news portal said that S. Mahalachime swallowed 10ml of bleach at her home in Buntong yesterday.

The girl’s aunt, M. Logalechumi, 28, told The Star Online that she had discovered her niece and rushed her to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

It is understood that Mahalachime awake and lucid but doctors have declined to comment further on her condition until all tests are concluded.

Earlier reports by The Star had stated that the girl failed to secure a place in secondary school because she does not have an identity card.
