KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 — New faces make up 70 per cent of the executive council (exco) members of the Puteri Umno movement for the 2013-2016 term.
Puteri Umno head Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said that with the new line-up, the movement would focus on giving more exposure to them including attending leadership training.
“They will also be given courses on the history and affairs of the movement so that they will understand the party’s struggles,” she said at the new exco line-up announcement for the Puteri Umno movement at the Putra World Trade Centre, here today.
Earlier, she chaired the first meeting of the movement after winning the post of Puteri Umno head in the party elections last October.
She said she was confident that the solidarity within the movement’s exco members could assist efforts in attracting support for the Barisan Nasional, particularly from the younger generation.
Thus, she said, Puteri Umno would intensify efforts to increase its membership through the campaign ‘Puteri Untuk Umno, Puteri Harapan Umno’ with the target of recruiting 500,000 new members.
As of November 15, Puteri Umno had 368,481 members.
Asked on the first meeting of the movement, Mas Ermieyati said three major issues were discussed namely new membership, new election agents and personality development programmes to empower the religion, economy and society.
In addition, the movement also discussed the work programmes for the Disaster Fund for the Haiyan Typhoon victims, blood donation campaign and talent scouting. — Bernama
