KOTA KINABALU, Nov 18 — Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said police had no knowledge of the Taiwan media report claiming that the family of the Taiwanese woman who was abducted at Pulau Pom Pom, Semporna last Friday had been contacted by a certain party demanding payment.
“According to police investigations, the victim’s family had not been contacted by any party (for any demand).
“Neither had the police been contacted by the Taiwan media on the matter,” he told reporters after a meeting with Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid here today.
Hamza said Taiwan authorities had confirmed that the couple were not married to each other although they were living together.
He said Sabah police were also working with the Taiwan authorities in the investigation.
“Some of their officers are already in Semporna to assist us. We cannot reveal certain information to the media as it could interfere with the investigation.
“Our priority is the safety of the victim, for her to return home safely,” he said, adding, Sabah police had recorded 20 statements on the incident.
On locals being the culprits in the incident, Hamza said the possibility was also being considered. — Bernama
