KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — The Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government is to refine the RM30,000 subsidy under the MyHome Programme at a meeting to be held on Thursday.

Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the meeting aimed to find, among others, the best mechanism to determine whom the subsidy of RM30,000 should be given to - the developer or the buyer.

He said the ministry had invited all state secretaries, the Department of Land and Mines, a representative of the Real Estate and Housing Developers Association of Malaysia (REHDA), Bank Negara, the Ministry of Finance, the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) and PR1MA to discuss the matter.

“We will consider the best mechanism. I understand, of course, there are two mechanisms of whether the RM30,000 should be given to the developer or the buyer, and we will address this issue at the meeting,” he said in reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Shamsul Anuar Nasarah (BN-Lenggong) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

In Budget 2014, the government had proposed a new housing project known as the Private Affordable Ownership Housing Scheme (MyHome) to encourage the private sector to build more low- and medium-cost houses and it was stated that the scheme offered a subsidy of RM30,000 to each private developer.

Replying to Shamsul's original question relating to the issues that might arise in the implementation process, including the question of the location of the housing development, access to basic facilities locally, the ownership of the site and the ability of the developer to complete the project within the stipulated time, Abdul Rahman said the National Housing Council would formulate a comprehensive action plan to address the issues more efficiently and quickly. — Bernama
