KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was today admitted to the General Ward of the National Heart Institute, here.

A statement from Dr Mahathir’s office today said the former prime minister was diagnosed with a chest infection and was currently undergoing treatment and chest physiotherapy.

“The medical team is closely monitoring his condition and is satisfied with his progress,” it said.

Dr Mahathir is expected to remain in the hospital for the next few days to allow the medical team to monitor his progress further as well as for physiotherapy and exercise.

Doctors have advised that visits be confined to Dr Mahathir’s immediate family members. — Bernama
