Johor Customs foils cigarette, alcohol smuggling attempt worth RM1.8m in taxes

JOHOR BARU, Nov 15 — The Johor Customs Department foiled the smuggling of cigarettes and hard liquor worth RM1.8 million in taxes at the Sultan Iskandar Building on Wednesday.

State Customs director Datuk Ramli Johari said the five vans with the smuggled goods were detected heading into the customs complex from Singapore about 12.05am.

“As soon as they were stopped for inspection, three of the drivers alighted from their vehicles and ran away, but the other two were detained,” he told a press conference here today.

He said the two local men aged 40 and 50 have been remanded for 14 days to facilitate investigations. — Bernama
