KUANTAN, Nov 11 — The High Court here today set Nov 20 to decide on the mental state of an Indonesian maid who was sentenced to a total of 20 years’ jail last February for attempting to murder and abusing a four-month-old baby boy.

Judge Datuk Seri Mariana Yahya made the decision after allowing an application by the prosecution for time to study the submission by the defence on a report of the mental examination conducted by Permai Hospital in Johor on the maid.

Deputy public prosecutor Nor Azizah Mohamad, who prosecuted in the case, when met by reporters later, said the prosecution needed time to study the report as they were only given the submission by the defence today.

The maid, Yuliana, 23, who was in court today, was sentenced to a total of 20 years’ jail by the Sessions Court here after she pleaded guilty to attempting to murder and abusing a four-month-old baby boy.

On March 12, Mariana ordered her to be detained at the Permai Hospital for three months to determine her mental state, following her application for stay of the jail sentence.

Yuliana is represented by lawyer T.Vijayandran, who is appointed by the Indonesian Embassy. — Bernama
