KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 — A resident of Jalan Terasek 7 in Bangsar said the abduction of Freddie Joseph showed security was lacking in the area.
“Police only patrol here at night, leaving us vulnerable in the daytime,” said the resident who refused to be named.
“We don’t have guards or closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in this area. One of the neighbours put up a CCTV in his home and it captured the incident.”
Another resident, who only wanted to be known as Yee, said the lack of security has left her feeling fearful.
“I am scared to even walk to the bus stop nearby. I always lock my house and keep a close eye on my children when I bring them to the park,” Yee said.
Jalan Terasek 7 — where Joseph was abducted — is situated opposite a park and a playground.
Kanna Muthu, 49, said several months ago a group of Rela members patrolled the area frequently.
“We have not seen them around for more than five months now,” said the father of three.
“Although police patrol the area, there has been a worrying number of snatch theft incidents.”
“Placing CCTV cameras would be a good way to instil fear in criminals,” said Kanna.
