KAMPAR, Nov 10 — A Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) lecturer and two students were reported missing while climbing Gunung Bujang Melaka in Kampung Batu Berangkai here yesterday.
The missing victims are lecturer Tang Ying Ying, 30 and students Goh Kae Min, 22, and Yap Suan Zi, 21.
Perak deputy police chief Datuk A. Paramasivam said the three victims went up the hill at 6am for an academic exercise.
“The victims had sent an SMS to a UTAR student saying they were lost and did not know their position before the matter was reported at the Kampar police station,” he told reporters here today.
He said a team of 180 security personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Department and police was deployed to find the victims at 7pm but was called off later in the night.
The search and rescue operation resumed at 6.30am this morning beefed by Senoi Prak trackers and helicopters. — Bernama
