Earlier, Perak deputy police chief Datuk A. Paramasivam had said the three victims went up the hill at 6am yesterday for an academic exercise.

“The victims had sent an SMS to a UTAR student saying they were lost and did not know their position before the matter was reported at the Kampar police station,” he told reporters here.

He said a team of 180 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Department and police was deployed to find the victims at 7pm but the SAR mission was called off later in the night.

The SAR had resumed at 6.30am this morning beefed up by Senoi Prak trackers and helicopters. — Bernama
