BALIK PULAU, Nov 8 — Police detained an Indonesian woman and seized a 1.7kg of syabu, worth RM360,000, at the Penang International Airport here last Wednesday.

Barat Daya district police chief Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said the 38-year-old suspect was detained at 7.40pm at the arrival hall after security personnel became suspicious of a bag she was carrying.

“After checking the bag, we found that it had been modified and the drug, which was wrapped in several layers of black plastic sheets was hidden,” he told a media conference here today.

He said police also found some foreign currency, worth RM830, on her.

The woman flew in from Hong Kong and based on her travelling record, she had flown from Indonesia to KL International Airport and was on transit in Hong Kong en-route to Guangzhou, China, he added.

He said the woman, who is married and has a 16-year-old son, would be in remand until November 13 for investigation. — Bernama
