KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — Police have asked the female owner of the Permata Harapan Nursery in Taman Melati here, who was alleged to have abused the children under her care, to surrender and cooperate with the police in their investigation.

Rozita Awang, 35, was reported to have disappeared soon after a father, who caught the abusive act on a camera hidden in his child’s backpack, exposed the video footage to the media on Nov 1.

Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said initial investigation found that the woman was a mother of six and that her husband was a taxi driver.  “We call on the woman to give her cooperation to the police at any police stations,” he told a media conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters here.

He said police had detained two babysitters at the nursery, aged 22 and 31, last Monday and they had been remanded until Friday to facilitate the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.  Ku said police had received five reports on the incident so far, which were lodged at Sentul and Wangsa Maju police stations between Oct 29 and Nov 4.  “Two of the complainants said they found bruises on their children’s bodies and had taken them to hospital for further examination, while three others claimed that their children were always scared when at the nursery,” he added. — Bernama
