MUAR, Nov 4 — A married couple were killed and four others, comprising a man and three women, were injured in a collision involving a tour bus, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a car at Kilometer 25 Jalan Muar-Batu Pahat, near Sungai Belukang, Sungai Balang here yesterday.
A former manager of a Chinese cemetery in Batu Pahat, Tan Chai Soon, 55, and his wife, How Siew Boon, 54, from Taman Puteri, Bandar Peggaram, were killed on the spot in the crash.
The injured were the driver of the tour bus and two of his passengers, aged 23 and 44, and a 48-year-old passenger in the MPV.
Muar District Police chief ACP Azman Ayob said the injured were sent to the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital for treatment and they were reported in stable condition.
He said the mishap occurred about 9pm while Tan, who was at the wheel of a Proton Persona, and his wife were returning to Batu Pahat after attending a wedding reception.
The car driver by Tan was believed to have veered and entered into the path of an incoming MPV, driven by Mazlan Abd Rahim, 55, before crashing into the tour bus which was bound for Perlis.
How, who was in the front passenger seat, was thrown out of the car and sustained serious head injuries, while Tan was trapped in the driver’s seat, he added.
Mazlan and his five children who were in the MPV were not injured, but his wife, only known as Hanizah, sustained injuries to her left arm.
The bus was carrying 16 passengers. — Bernama
