GEORGE TOWN, Nov 4 — A former security forces personnel has been sought to facilitate investigations into more than 10 cases of attempted extortion involving between RM20,000 and RM50,000.

Initial police investigations revealed that the man had allegedly sent bullets in letters to intended victims and demanded for the extortion money, via the telephone.

The victims lodged police reports on the attempted extortion cases which occurred between Oct 25 and 28.

However, one victim had fallen prey to the fugitive and deposited RM20,000 into the former’s bank account.

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the man’s involvement to the cases was uncovered when the police interrogated two men in connection with the cases.

He said the suspects, aged 38 and 43, were picked up on Oct 30 in Batu Ferringhi.

“Our initial investigations revealed that the two suspects did not personally know their targeted victims.

“Nevertheless, they sent the letters containing bullets at random to houses and business premises to demand between RM20,000 and RM50,000,” he told reporters here today. – Bernama
