BENTONG, Nov 4 — A picnic at the Lata Hammer Recreation Centre, Batu Tujuh near here, turned into a tragedy for 10 Singaporean tourists when their driver, who had earlier helped to save one of them from drowning, was found drowned at noon yesterday.

Bentong district police chief Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor said prior to Kevin Tan Chew, 42, from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, found drowned, he had jumped into the river to save one of the tourists who got into difficulties while playing in the water.

After Tan brought the tourist to the bank, he was said to have fallen into the river and was swept by the current, he added.

He said the Bentong Fire and Rescue station was informed and a search and rescue team was formed to look for Tan, who was found three hours later and rushed to the Bentong Hospital.

“However, a doctor there conformed him dead from drowning,” he added. — Bernama
