YAN, Nov 1 — Deputy Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid today hit out at certain opposition leaders whom he said did not understand the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system and yet were trying to alarm the people on the matter.

He said from his observations, many senior opposition leaders did not understand the GST concept and as such the actual information did not reach the mid-level leaders.

“These leaders are trying to scare the people when they themselves do not understand GST when speaking at ceramahs (political talks),” he told reporters after opening the ministry's Customer Day programme here today.

Also present was National Water Services Commission (SPAN) chairman Datuk Ismail Kassim.

In this regard, Mahdzir told Sungai Limau residents to assess the overall development they were enjoying now when Kedah was administered by Barisan Nasional (BN) compared to PAS.

“I am leaving it to the people to evaluate for themselves on the overall development taking place,” said Mahdzir, who is also a former menteri besar of Kedah.

Tomorrow, 27,222 voters in the Sungai Limau state constituency will be going to the polls to elected a new representative from among two candidates, Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim of the Barisan Nasional and PAS candidate Mohd Azam Abd Samat. — Bernama
