KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 1 — The Road Transport Department (RTD) introduced the mySIKAP system to facilitate all motor vehicle and drivers licence transactions nationwide, effective today.

One of the new transactions available was the transfer of vehicle ownership involving thumbprints by both parties, RTD director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said after launching the 1RTD Youth Squad Carnival at Pantai Batu Burok here today, which was also attended by state RTD director Abdul Rahman Emang Anyie.

“The seller and buyer need to register at any RTD counter and provide their thumbprints. They don’t have to be present at the same time or even at the same counter, as long as both thumbprints are recorded within seven days,” he said.

He said the new system was aimed at preventing any integrity issues which often occurred in transfer of title cases.

Ismail also explained that the second sale and purchase could be made online as the thumbprints from the previous transaction were already on record.

On a separate development, Ismail said the new MyLesen programme to obtain drivers licence would be introduced early next year.

RTD will collaborate with driving institutes to attract more people to obtain drivers licences as an estimated three million road users had no licence, he said.

“The fees will be cheaper too, RM191 for motorbikes compared to the current RM261,” he said. — Bernama
