GEORGE TOWN, Oct 30 ― The police have arrested a man suspected to have been involved in 15 cases of extortion where live bullets were sent to the victims, said Penang Deputy CPO Datuk A. Thaiveegan.

He said the 43-year-old man was picked up at a club in Batu Ferringhi at 1.30 am today.

The man would send an extortion note with a live bullet to businessmen, whom he mainly targeted, and would demand that a sum of money be deposited into his bank account, he told reporters.

Thaiveegan said the police were trying to ascertain the amount of money that had been paid to the man and where he had sourced the live bullets.

He said police received reports of the extortion between October 25 and 28 in the North-East District. ― Bernama
