Gerakan Youth demands PAS' explanation over failed housing projects

YAN (Kedah), Oct 30 — Gerakan Youth has asked PAS to explain the alleged failure of several housing projects during the latter’s administration of the Kedah state government.

Its chief, Tan Keng Liang, said today the projects included the low-cost and affordable homes in Bandar Sejahtera and Bandar Tuanku Puteri in Pokok Sena as well as the low-cost apartments in Bandar Darul Aman, Jitra.  Tan, who also heads the Kedah Gerakan Youth, said a check showed that the three abandoned projects had to be taken over by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.

“PAS has to view this matter seriously and explain its failure to complete the projects as promised to the people before hurling accusations at the BN government,” he told a news conference at the Gerakan operations room for the Sungai Limau state by-election, near here.

“Give preference to this important matter before making all kinds of speculation against the BN which fulfills its promises to the people,” he said.

Tan said the BN, which took over the state government administration after the general election in May, had to continue from where PAS had left off in Bandar Sejahtera in Pokok Sena because the house buyers had signed the sale-and-purchase agreement.

“So far, 90 per cent of the 128 units of affordable homes under the project have been completed after the project was taken over by the BN government,” he said.

Tan reminded the voters of the Sungai Limau constituency to ignore the promises made by PAS at its ‘ceramah’ (talks) which he said had been gaining momentum of late.

The Sungai Limau state by-election, polling for which is on Nov 4, is a straight fight between Dr Ahmad Sohaimi Lazim of the BN and Mohd Azam Abd Samat of PAS.

It is being held following the death of the incumbent assemblyman and former Kedah menteri besar, the late Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak, on Sept 26. — Bernama
