SKJC Bertam Valley postpones classes due to mud flood

CAMERON HIGHLANDS, Oct 25 — The school session of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Bertam Valley has been stalled since Wednesday following a mud flood in Bertam Valley, Ringlet, here, with almost the whole school affected.

Its headmaster, Tee Lian Yew said the Cameron Highlands district education office had not decided on how long classes would be suspended as the clean-up would take some time.

“I understand the education office needs to clean and repair the school...it will take time,” he said when met by Bernama.

It was observed at the school that almost all classrooms, toilets, computers, chairs and tables on the ground floor were destroyed by the mud flood.

Tee said the school had been informed that Tenaga Nasional Berhad and the Cameron Highlands district office would inspect the school after the clean-up operation had been completed.

The schoolteachers, parents and students are also assisting in cleaning up  the school.

In the 1am incident on Wednesday, two people were killed while another died due to a heart attack in the flash flood tragedy which also damaged 80 houses.

The incident was caused by overflowing water from Sungai Bertam following the release of water from the Sultan Abu Bakar Dam in the upstream. — Bernama
