YAN, Oct 23 — The nomination centre for the Sungai Limau state seat by-election at Dewan Datuk Madi, here, was opened at 9am today and will close an hour later.

The Sungai Limau state seat, which is in the Jerai parliamentary constituency, was declared vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak, who was also former Kedah Mentri Besar, due to heart complications and diabetes, on September 26.

The Sungai Limau state constituency has 27,222 registered voters with 30 per cent made up of young voters.

Barisan Nasional (BN) is fielding a senior lecturer at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), Prof Dr Ahmad Suhaimi Lazim, 52, who is a Jerai Umno committee member, as its candidate.

PAS is fielding Jerai Youth chief Mohd Azam Samat as its candidate.
