JOHOR BARU, Oct 18 — A newborn baby boy was found in a box in front of a house at Jalan Panglin 1, Taman Perling by a passer-by at 10.30pm last night.

North Johor Baru police chief ACP Ruslan Hassan said the baby, who appeared healthy, was dressed in blue and wrapped with a cloth diaper.

“There were no injuries on the baby. Based on the umbilical cord and blood stains on his head, we believe he was just born,” he said when contacted here today.

The infant was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital and the Social Welfare Department has been informed of the matter, he added.

Members of the public with any information on the case may contact the police at 07-2212999 or the nearest police station.

Meanwhile, OrphanCare Foundation trustee Noraini Hashim was quoted by a local English daily yesterday as saying that a baby hatch would be set up in Johor as well, in addition to Selangor and Kelantan.

Noraini noted that according to government statistics the three states showed the highest incidences of baby dumping. — Bernama
