KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — Police have seized eight vehicles valued at RM600,000 after detaining nine people including a woman suspected to be actively involved in carjacking around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
“The group, who had been active since early this year, uses the modus operandi of crashing into the back of the victim’s car and threatening the victim with a weapon before driving off with the victim’s car.
“They had also robbed the car victims as they were entering the house or at the parking area,” he told reporters near here today.
He said from the arrests, police recovered eight cars comprising Honda CRV, Honda City, Honda Civic, Toyota Vios, Proton Waja, Audi Q5, Toyota Unser and BMW X5.
“We seized the cars which were parked at shopping complexes and condominiums around Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley.
“We believe the vehicles were left in such parking areas while awaiting for buyers...investigation will be carried out to see if the gang has any links with the syndicate caught for smuggling RM2.07 million of luxury cars on October 8 in Klang.
From the raid at the budget hotel, police confiscated a 30-inch samurai sword, an 11-inch knife, a file, a 21-inch iron rod, masks and a watch,” he said.
“Five of the nine held had past criminal records for drugs, robberies and other crimes,” he said.
He said with the arrest, police have solved about 20 cases of carjacking in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Muhammad Azlee said police were still looking for Chia Chin Hock, 30, believed to be linked to the group and members of public with information could contact investigation officer Zahril Azly Zuklifli at 017-4589997. — Bernama
