KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — An army couple and their two-year-old daughter were killed after the car they were travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a tanker lorry on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway today, police said.
Bentong OCPD Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohd Nor said Corporal Jiman Raup, 32, and his wife Corporal Nik Zaieyahaliza Ya, 29, and their daughter, Nurul Damia, died on the spot in the accident at Km49 of the highway near Bukit Tinggi.
He said Jiman was from Labuan and Nik Zaieyahaliza, from Terengganu, and they were travelling from Terengganu to Kuala Lumpur when the accident happened at 7.08am.
The lorry driver, identified only as Abd Rahman, 38, was unhurt.
Meanwhile, Nik Zaieyahaliza’s cousin sister, housewife Asliza Abdullah, 32, said the former was two months’ pregnant, as confided by her during their Facebook communication.
She said Nik Zaieyahaliza was the eldest of six siblings, and had been a jovial and hardworking individual.
Asliza said the cousin’s parents were awaiting the arrival of the body in Jerteh, Terengganu, for burial in Gong Tanah Merah. Jiman’s family was expected to arrive from Beaufort, Sabah, tonight.
An officer at the Royal Military College in Sungai Besi, who declined to be identified, said Nik Zaieyahaliza had worked as a clerk in the music section of the college.
She had undergone training at the Army Training Centre in Port Dickson in 2003 before serving at the camp three years later.
“She had applied for leave to return to her village in Jerteh for the Aidiladha. She was to have resumed work today,” the officer said when met at the hospital.
Jiman had worked at the clerical section of the college from April last year. — Bernama
