Don’t spoil the language, says Jailani

KEMAMAN, Sept 29 — Communication and Multimedia deputy minister Datuk Jailani Johari has urged the present generation not to spoil the language by mixing it with confusing word forms.

He noted the trend particularly in the social media where the language used, including in short-message services (SMSes) and emails was muddled.

“I also want to remind them to use the social media conscientiously and not to misuse it to defame a person or make condemnations that can harm the country and leaders,” he told reporters after launching the national-level 1Malaysia speech competition here today.

Meanwhile Jailani said for the present generation to achieve transformation and their aspirations, they must be led by trusworthy leaders who could ensure that physical development would be in tandem with spiritual and human capital development.

On the 1Malaysia speech competition themed ‘Malaysiaku Berdaulat: Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku’, he said it was aimed among others, at empowering the national language as a culture among the people of various races and to inculcate a love for the country through practising the 1Malaysia concept. — Bernama
