City Hall cleans up wretched orchard
Malay Mail

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 24 — City Hall workers yesterday scrambled to tidy up things at Taman Dusun Bandar following reports by The Malay Mail on its wretched condition.

Our observations at the park yesterday afternoon revealed discarded plastic bottles and other garbage had been removed from the pond. A pot which had been left unattended near the entrance had also been removed after The Malay Mail highlighted it had become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Checks at the women’s toilet also showed that the toilet was clean, without traces of dirt and cobwebs unlike previously. The toilet floor which was wet made appears as if it had just been cleaned.

However, some things remained unattended including the broken taps, the collapsed ceiling and dangerous wasp nest in the women’s toilet.

Our visit yesterday also showed more trees in the park were drying up. Our team discovered more trees which appeared to be dying and we also spotted many trees which leaves were turning brown. We also spotted several workers using a hose to water plants in the orchard.

In our expose yesterday, The Malay Mail highlighted that the RM17 million fruit orchard was a major embarrassment to Kuala Lumpur tourism.

While City Hall had opened the doors of the park to the public on Sept 1, our investigation showed that the 7.7ha urban oasis had yet to live up to its name — with a large number of trees still young.

City mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib had in our report yesterday said he will instruct his officers to look into the poor condition of the facilities at the park before it is officially launched next month.
