Wisma Putra urges Malaysians with non-essential plans to defer travel to Egypt

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 23 —  Malaysians who have non-essential plans in Egypt are again advised to defer or reschedule their travel plans to the country, Wisma Putra said.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement here, today said this was due to the prevailing security situation and continuing political uncertainties in the country.

The Egyptian government had also extended the one-month state emergency, declared on August 14, to another two months with effect from Sept 12, it said.

The statement added that Egyptian authorities are currently undertaking security option in several areas namely Kirdasah in Cairo, Delga town in Minya Governorate and North Sinai Governorate.

“It is therefore advisable for Malaysians currently in Egypt to avoid the aforementioned places,” it added.

The ministry also advised Malaysians in Egypt to contact the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo for further updates.
