KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s nomination forms to defend his post as Umno president in the party election in October was submitted at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), here at 8 this morning.
The forms were submitted by his political secretary, Datuk Khairun Aseh who was present to represent Najib at the Labuan Room, Level 5, PWTC during the nomination process.
Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is the proposer for the Prime Minister for the party presidency while his seconder is Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin too submitted his nomination papers to defend the post of Umno deputy president at 8am. Muhyiddin’s nomination papers were submitted by his political secretary, Datuk Mohd Nardin Awang. Najib is the proposer for Muhyiddin while the seconder is Tengku Adnan.
Najib won the president’s seat uncontested on March 26, 2009 and he is defending the presidency for the second term this time.
Najib and Muhyiddin attended the mammoth procession in conjunction with the 80th Malaysian Armed Forces Day at the Dataran Merdeka, this morning.
Two days ago, Najib had announced that he would defend the post based on the support and trust voiced by party members at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin won the deputy president’s seat when he beat his sole challenger Tan Sri Muhammad Muhamad Taib in the Umno election in 2009.
He is also defending the post for the second term this time. — Bernama
