KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 — Acts of sabotage will not stop DAP’s plan to hold fresh polls to re-elect its central executive committee members, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said today.

Recently, disgruntled grassroots members filed for an injunction to stop the party from holding fresh elections, a move that could sabotage the DAP’s efforts to fulfil the Registrar of Societies’ (RoS) directive and a possible de-registration.

“Let our lawyers deal with it. We’ll proceed with the re-election until we get instructions from the court,” Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, told a press conference at the party’s headquarters here.

As a precautionary measure, Lim urged party members to participate in the election in full force.

“We hope for a good turnout. There are concerns about attempts to sabotage the re-election.

“I hope delegates can turn up for the polls to proceed smoothly and to save the party,” he said.

Yesterday, Ladang Paroi branch deputy chairman A. David Dass was reported to have filed an injunction to stop the party from holding fresh polls as it was against the party’s constitution.

On January 4, it was revealed that an internal audit showed errors in the tabulation of votes from the December 15, 2012 party elections that he said were caused by a technical glitch when the results were transferred to a computer using the Microsoft Excel programme.

The amendments resulted in Lim’s political secretary, Zairil Khir Johari, moving up from 39th position to 20th ― the last elected position in the party’s CEC.

Following complaints by some members, the RoS began investigations and subsequently ordered the party to hold its elections again, after saying it was not satisfied with the explanation given.

DAP leaders claimed the move was aimed at destroying the party after it made significant gains in the 13th general election and is now the leading party in the federal opposition bloc, Pakatan Rakyat.

Lim also alleged that the RoS has been co-opted by Umno as part of a so-called “Umno/BN Demolish/Destroy DAP (DDDcampaign, pointing to the agency’s increased intent to take action against the party based on unverified allegations.

After prolonged public wrangling the Registrar, the party last month finally gave up its fight and agreed to hold the fresh election as directed.
