PETALING JAYA, Sept 5 — The controversial issue involving SK Sri Pristana students and their parents has been resolved.

MIC strategic director Vell Paari said a meeting was organised between the parents and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Paul Low.

He said government agencies under Low also attended the meeting about the shower-room-turned-canteen issue on Monday.

“Guneswari Kelly and another parent, Raj, were also at the meeting and they were allowed to speak their mind, put forward their views and describe what had happened at the school.

“They also spoke about the police harassment faced by their children and the arrest of V. Kumancan.”

Vell Paari said Low and director-general of the Public Complaints Bureau, Datuk Mahani Tan Abdullah, were very supportive of the parents.

He said they were also very sympathetic and promised to solve the matter.

“They have come up with solutions to solve the issue, and the parents were happy with what was presented to them.”

Vell Paari said Low had also fixed an appointment with Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan to discuss issues involving the headmaster and teachers.

Mahani had told him that police officers lacked people skills when dealing with such issues, and that they would work towards solving the problem.

“No statements on the solutions agreed upon will be issued now because the students are undergoing their trial exams,” he said.

“Once it’s over, MIC and the parents will get together and issue a statement.”

He said Malaysian Tamilan Today secretary K. Gunasekaran was also invited to the meeting.

Vell Paari said Gunasekaran informed the parents that he would not be able to attend the meeting because he would be launching his book.

He said for Gunasekaran to make the claim that MIC was not helping to solve the controversy surrounding the school was unfair and wrong.

Gunasekaran said yesterday that it was pointless to depend on MIC to champion the issue as its leaders “lacked courage.”

Vell Paari said Gunasekaran could say whatever he wanted, but he (Vell Paari) had been involved with the issue since it came to light.

He said the issue had already been resolved, and bringing it up without knowing all the facts did not make sense.
