PETALING JAYA, Aug 30 — Anti-crime activist R. Sri Sanjeevan, who was shot last month, has finally regained full consciousness but is now said to have lost his memory.

The Star Online reported today that the MyWatch chairman’s father P. Ramakrishnan said that Sanjeevan (picture) has no memory of the attempt on his life nor could he recognise himself or his loved ones.

“He was in a coma for 10 days so that was the cause of his amnesia. There are so many things he can’t remember. We (his parents) are reminding him slowly — one by one — trying to help him understand.

“He asked me who he was and why he was there. I said to him: ‘You are Sanjeevan. You are my son. You had an accident.’

“This is a big disaster to the family after all the stress we have gone through,” Ramakrishnan was quoted as saying yesterday.

The Star Online also reported that despite his son’s memory loss, Ramakrishnan was upbeat, saying that Sanjeevan was getting stronger.

Sanjeevan was shot by a motorcycle pillion rider on July 27 in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, a few days after he alleged corruption in the police top brass.

The 29-year-old had tweeted through his @SanjeevanSS account on July 25, saying “Seriously thinking to expose on a top leader of @PDRMsia where his son is under payroll of kingpins and some syndicates. Interesting piece!”, referring to the Twitter account of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).

Hours before his shooting, Sanjeevan had tweeted: “A @PDRMsia cop told some syndicate fellow that he’ll get them firearm & told them to fire few shots at my house to scare me/family!”

Sanjeevan’s shooting and the assassination of Arab-Malaysian Development Bank founder Hussain Ahmad Najadi in Kuala Lumpur two days later are the two high-profile cases in a recent surge in gun violence.
