KUCHING, Aug 28 — Yesterday’s temporary disruption in power supply in Mukah town could have been caused by a kite string coming in contact with the live conductors of the 132kV transmission lines.
The disruption occurred at 5.51pm.
The Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) in a statement today, said this was consistent with the complaints made by the local residents who claimed to have seen a ‘flashover’ near the lines.
“SEB technical staff patrolling the area found three discarded kites and strings near the affected tower where the ‘flashover’ occurred.
“The outage was fully restored at 8.18pm,” it said.
The SEB reminded the public that such an incident would not only inconvenience the people, but also put their safety at risk.
“Contact with the lines could cause serious injury or death due to electrocution,” it added. — Bernama
