KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 — Police have detained a 34-year-old warden, believed to be the middleman involved in drug trafficking activities, in Kajang Prison. 

Kajang police chief ACP Abdul Rashid Abdul Wahab said the man who has been serving in the prison for the past one year and four months, was arrested at 11.45am yesterday in front of a shopping complex in Kajang.

On checking the suspect, 104.8 grammes of heroin was found in his pant pocket. Police believe he had just collected the drug supply when arrested, he told reporters here today.

According to Abdul Rashid, further investigation found that the suspect had brought drugs into the prison four times and received RM800 for each transaction.

The drug is delivered by the suspect to two prisoners who act as distributors inside the  prison and police believe the prisoners involved are “appointed” by drug distributors outside, he said.

“To avoid detection, the prisoners (distributing) compress the drug into two slabs and insert it into their respective anus,” he said. 

He added that police believed the payment for the purchase of the drugs was done by friends or family members of inmates.

“The suspect tested negative for the urine screening test and did not have any previous criminal record. He was remanded for six days for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

In a separate case, Abdul Rashid said police busted a ring involved in marijuana and heroin trafficking after arresting three Nigerian nationals in Bandar Damai Perdana, on Wednesday.

“All three, aged between 27 and 30 years, were arrested after police found marijuana weighing 12.25 grammes in a blender, and 16.45 grammes of heroin in a room.”

Two of the three suspects tested positive for marijuana. The suspects had entered Malaysia in 2008 with student passes and had been remanded for two-weeks for further investigation, he said. – Bernama
