KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — R. Sri Sanjeevan (picture) will be taken off the ventilator in less than two days and should be able to talk then, weeks after the anti-crime activist was shot in a murder attempt, his father said today.

P. Ramakrishnan said the MyWatch chief was still unconscious under medication when he visited his 29-year-old son in the Serdang Hospital in Selangor this morning.

“They’re going to remove the ventilator in one or two days,” Ramakrishnan told The Malay Mail Online.

“Then, he’ll be able to talk,” he added.

Serdang Hospital doctors performed a five-hour operation on Sanjeevan last Thursday to remove a blood clot and a bullet from his lungs, after which the bullet was reportedly sent to the Cheras police forensics department.

Ramakrishnan also said over the weekend that Bukit Aman has taken over the investigation into the attempted murder of Sanjeevan from Negri Sembilan state police.

He had said that a “conflict of interest” might arise from Negri Sembilan investigating the case as Sanjeevan had lodged complaints against the state police before.

Sanjeevan was shot on July 27 in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, shortly after he alleged corruption in the top ranks of the police.
