KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 — Bukit Aman is now heading the investigation into the attempted murder of R. Sri Sanjeevan, the anti-crime activist’s father said, voicing his relief at the commitment from the police.
P. Ramakrishnan (picture), father of the MyWatch chief who is battling for his life in a Selangor hospital, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar informed him last Friday that federal CID director Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah is leading the taskforce on his son’s shooting.
“He’s already confirmed with me that he’ll thoroughly investigate the matter,” Ramakrishnan told The Malay Mail Online over the weekend, referring to the national police chief.
“He’s personally taking good care of this matter. I feel much better. I’m relieved,” he added.
Ramakrishnan lodged a police report on August 13 to press the federal police to take over the investigations into his son’s shooting from Negri Sembilan state police as he feared a “conflict of interest”.
MyWatch co-founder S. Gobi Krishnan, who had accompanied Ramakrishnan when lodging the report, highlighted that Sanjeevan had once filed complaints against the Negri Sembilan state police.
Serdang Hospital doctors performed a five-hour operation on Sanjeevan last Thursday to remove a blood clot and a bullet from his lungs.
Several media reports said that the bullet was later sent to the Cheras police forensics department.
Ramakrishnan told The Malay Mail Online on Friday that doctors expect Sanjeevan to regain consciousness in under three days.
Sanjeevan was shot on July 27 in Bahau, Negri Sembilan, shortly after he alleged corruption in the top ranks of the police.
The 29-year-old had tweeted through his @SanjeevanSS account on July 25, saying “Seriously thinking to expose on a top leader of @PDRMsia where his son is under payroll of kingpins and some syndicates. Interesting piece!”, referring to the official Twitter account of the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
Just hours before he was shot by a man riding pillion on a motorcycle, Sanjeevan tweeted that a police officer had told a member of a crime syndicate that firearms would be given to the latter to fire warning shots at Sanjeevan’s house.
Shooting and other violent crimes like car bombings have surged over the past few weeks across the country, with one shooting reported almost every day.
