IPOH, Aug 17 — Police have obtained an order to remand for three days the mother and father of a five-year-old girl who was allegedly abused by her parents at their home in Menglembu here.

Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the 39-year-old man and his 30-year-old wife were detained at about 1.30pm yesterday.

“Police contacted the couple and ordered them to come to the police station after receiving a report from a doctor at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) on a girl suspected to be a victim of abuse,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Based on a preliminary report, the girl was sent to the hospital by a family member yesterday and checks conducted on her found wounds on her body, believed from caning.

The girl is now at the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU), he added. — Bernama
