GEORGE TOWN, Aug 16 — Fans of Japanese pop culture in Penang are in for a treat this weekend as the first-ever Culture Japan Convention will be held here at the Straits Quay Convention Centre.

The event, organised and hosted by Culture Japan’s Danny Choo, is an echo of the highly successful quarterly Culture Japan Night that was hosted in various countries.

Fans will get to meet cosplayers such as Maridah and Angie, voice actress Asakawa Yuu, Japanese band VividBlaze and Japanese illustrators Ikkyuu and DMYO during the two-day event.

Jointly organised by Culture Japan and Penang Global Tourism, the Culture Japan Convention (CJC) will be two full days of exciting activities for fans to meet cosplayers, illustrators, retailers, card gamers and other Japanese pop culture fans from all around the world.

Local cosplayers will get a chance to show off their costumes at cosplay contests to be held during the CJC while card gamers may take part in the card game tournaments.

Wannabe anime illustrators may want to sign up for an illustration workshop by Ikkyuu and DMYO during the event.

There will also be a doll display section, an itasha showcase, doujin booths, cosplay photography competition and anime merchandise sales.

Entry into the CJC is RM35 for pre-order tickets for two days while walk-in tickets are being sold at RM20 per day.

Each purchase will entitle the ticket holder to a free comrade lanyard, free mirai suenaga uchiwa (hand fan), an event guide and a lucky draw entry.
