KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — A 21-year-old female student, who was cheated in a ‘parcel’ scam, led police to a syndicate involving four Nigerians and a local woman.
“The suspect told the victim he had brought a special gift for her but was detained by the Immigration. He asked her to bank in RM1,630 into the account of a woman in order for the parcel to be released,” he told reporters here today.
The victim deposited the amount but became suspicious and lodged a police report when he asked for more money.
Police raided a hotel at Jalan Maharajalela and detained the five suspects, aged between 29 and 32, about 10 am on Thursday and seized four laptops, six mobile phones, 10 ATM cards, six bank account books and a Kia Spectra car with 1.30 kilogrammes of methamphetamine hidden under the driver’s seat, said Mohan Singh.
Meanwhile, police nabbed a motorcyclist in possession of a machete and knife in a badminton racquet bag, during a patrol in Taman Taynton View here at 11.05am this morning.
“The pillion rider managed to flee but the 22-year-old motorcyclist was detained and is in remand until Aug 19,” said Mohan Singh.
