KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — Wisma Putra today confirmed that all Malaysians in Egypt are safe. In a statement, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said Malaysians in Egypt should be in close contact with the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo.

"The Embassy of Malaysia in Cairo has advised Malaysians in Egypt to abide by the security guidelines issued by the Egyptian authorities and the embassy’s instructions, including the curfew, as well as avoid conflict ridden areas.
"For the returning Malaysian students, they are advised to check and confirm with their respective universities whether there would be any change on the starting date of their academic year before flying back to Egypt," he said.
He said Malaysians were also strongly advised to defer and reschedule all non-essential visits to Egypt.
Meanwhile, Anifah said the government strongly opposed violence as a means of solving any conflict and hoped all parties would exercise full restraint and return immediately to negotiations for a peaceful solution.
He said it was vital that the current political stalemate be resolved through continuous dialogue and a progressive reconciliation process.
"The Government of Malaysia is deeply saddened and concerned with the latest unrest and bloodshed that has occurred and cost hundreds of lives, injured thousand others, and not to mention the destruction of properties," he said. — Bernama
